Creality CR-6 Acrylic Enclosure Kit

Regular price $299.00 Sale

The Creality CR-6 is the company's first attempt at a Kickstarter, and it was fun to participate.  The printer ended up just being a slighter larger Ender 3 V2, but it's still a great buy.

We picked up a CR-6 recently and designed some cool features into the enclosure:

  • A custom vent to bring cold air to the electronics without having to modify your printer.

  • The control panel is outside the enclosure so you can make changes to the printer without having to open the doors.

  • Easy access to the extruder through the left-side door, while the front door gives complete access to the bed.

  • Comes with its own acrylic spool holder that can be placed either to the left of the printer or on top.

The one thing we couldn't do is figure out how to use the CR-6's weird side spool holder with an enclosure.  We tried, but that spool holder doesn't work well under the best of circumstances.  Instead, the kit includes one of our acrylic spool holders.

This enclosure is just for the CR-6.  If you have the printer on the right below you'll want the Ender 3 V2 enclosure.

Advantages of adding a 3DUPfitters enclosure:

  • Better quality prints because the ambient temperature is controlled
  • Keeps the power supply cool while the interior is hot enough for consistent prints with advanced material
  • More flexibility to print different types of filaments, including ABS
  • Optional fume filter or vent to the outside (both sold separately)
  • Thick 6mm acrylic doors and 3mm sides

The enclosure works by retaining the heat from the bed to bring the ambient temperature up high enough so that ABS and other filaments that expand when they cool are stabilized.  If your main concern is the smell of melting plastic, it can be mitigated using an optional carbon filter.  But if you are more interested in improving overall indoor air quality, a better solution is to vent to the outside via a hose. (not included).  If you just want the highest possible enclosure temperature just put on the included air vent cover and it'll heat up as hot as possible.

How It's Built

All of the plastic parts are 3D printed in ABS to withstand the heat from the enclosure. The panels are cut on a US-made industrial laser and then flat packed for your assembly.   All you need to put it together is a hex wrench and a small Phillips head screwdriver.  (not included.)

Specifications

The CR-6 Enclosure Installation Manual is quite helpful.
