Creality CR-10 S5 Enclosure Progress

This is a first attempt at making an enclosure for the enormous Reality CR-10 S5, which has a massive 500x500x500mm build area. Its almost 4 feet long!

The first challenge was the front to back range of the bed made the enclosure so long you can no longer easily reach the extruder from the front door. This necessitated a side door as you can see in the photo. The only problem is the first stab at a location for the side door is still a pain to access the extruder to feed in filament.

The upshot is I'm going back to the drawing board and designing a new side door. The good news, though, is all of our designs as based on actually using the enclosures so we can be sure you'll enjoy using them every day.

On a side note, the wood you see has been finished in a stain and polyurethane on both sides, which is a requirement to minimizing warping with the large wood panels. The inside is lit up with LEDs inserted into the CR-10's 20x20 aluminum rails, which is a prerequisite if you want to see anything inside a box this large.
